about

Scored with prominent voicing for two Fagotts and two Pianists, "Love Lost" is a re-release from DWC, "Dead White Composers" (2022), inspired by the evocative relationship between Gustav and Alma Mahler. Alma, an Austrian composer, author, editor, and socialite in her own right, once described her three-year "intense battle of love" with her side piece Oskar Kokoschka as "so much strain, so much hell, so much paradise." You hear this delicate struggle in the cascading polyrhythms that melt into the ear, as the Fagotts soar harmoniously above a warm tapioca of arpeggiation between the two Pianists. As "Love Lost" unfolds, you become engulfed in an abyss of sonic intrigue involving love, loss, grievance, and heartbreak, reflecting the intense and eclectic nature of otherworldly inspiration itself.
